I’ve been absent from my blog again but I’m not apologising this time, honestly it’s been nice to have a break from it all and reassess what I want to get from blogging. Since I started blogging over 4 years ago a lot has changed and I think the majority of these changes have been positive. Many food bloggers who I am now friends with are able to make a full time living from blogging which is fantastic. I toyed with the idea last year of trying to earn money through my blog but ultimately decided that it wasn’t for me. I’m much happier with blogging purely as a hobby. This means that I can post what I want, when I want and I don’t feel pressured to try and keep up with what everyone else is doing, especially when it comes to promoting my content. Trying to keep up with social media across all platforms is hard work and I have taken a big step back from it as it was taking up far too much of my time last year and I wasn’t enjoying it.
This leads me nicely into the changes that are happening around here. First of all I’m going to be incorporating a lot more posts about photography. I bought my first DSLR about 15 months ago and since I learned how to get off auto settings around a year ago I’ve been having a lot fun learning how to use the camera properly and exploring different styles of photography. Quite a lot of what I shoot is food but there will also be some nature, landscape and abstract photography posts coming up too. You’ll be able to find all these posts in the photography section. Here’s a selection of some of my favourite photos from this year.
Secondly I want to post articles on food and food related issues that particularly interest me. I’m probably going to sound like a massive nerd (I don’t care) but I’ve always enjoyed writing essays to a certain extent. In fact I think the most enjoyable part of writing my thesis (not that writing a thesis is top of anyone’s list of fun activities) was writing the literature review. Gathering a bunch of information from a range of sources and teasing out the common themes then working them into a discussion came more naturally to me than writing about the results from my experiments. These posts will all be in the food for thought section.
Finally I will still be posting recipes, after all I can’t keep calling myself a food blogger if I don’t post any food content can I? These will all be filed neatly away in the recipes section.
Hopefully if you’re a long time regular reader you’ll still be interested in what I’m posting and if you’re a new reader then I hope you like what you see here and might come back again another day.
